• Wednesday's 6:15 PM Mass and confessions move to St Columba's while the boiler at St Brigid's is replaced.

  • Our Lady Star of the Sea is closed all Saturday while the floor is resealed; the 9:15 AM Mass on Sunday goes ahead.

  • All Saints falls on Sunday this year, so the usual Sunday times stand. Daylight saving ends overnight: set clocks back an hour on Saturday.

  • Masses for the dead at 8:30 AM and 7:15 PM at St Columba's. The November Book of Remembrance is out by the font in all three churches.

A priest in a black coat and violet stole sprinkles holy water over a headstone while a woman holding white chrysanthemums looks on.

Every November the parish blesses the graves of its dead, and this year it falls on Saturday, November 7. Meet at the Hollis Road gate of Wrenmouth Cemetery at 2:15 PM. Fr Declan says a short prayer at the gate, then walks the Catholic section row by row with holy water while Joe Okafor leads the litany of the saints.

If you would like a particular grave blessed, stand beside it and Fr Declan will stop. Families with graves at St Brigid's churchyard or in the Saltcote plot can ask Maeve for a home visit to either one during the week of November 9.

It takes about an hour. Paths are grass and can be soft after rain, so bring boots. In heavy rain the prayer moves inside the cemetery chapel and the blessing goes ahead at the graves afterwards.
